Reviews
This heater has had a very short life with me (less than a year), and it has just suddenly died. From the very beginning it was the most peculiar heater I have ever had. I had previously owned a Holmes radiant heater that was not digital, and when it died (it didn't live that long either!) I got this one. What a huge disappointment! It seems as if they made everything completely non-intuitive. It is very noisy at start up (but so was the previous model), the bar on the front gets very hot which is extremely dangerous because the tendency is to use it as a handle (I have burns to prove it), and turning it off is the most un-intuitive thing I have ever seen. You have to hold down the button while it goes to the highest heat (makes you think you did it wrong) before it shuts off. Though I liked the model they had before this one, this is a real dud. After I finally got used to all its peculiarities, today the heating element went. But perhaps just as well. I have been very unhappy with this fan since the beginning.
This is a great little heater for the price. I works well to heat my bedroom. It even works well on the low setting, which is unusual. I does make a little rattling sound when starting up, but after that it is quiet. I like the upright configuration; less likely to trip over it in the middle of the night. The one touch function and thermostat work well.
This product, corresponding with most the reviews I read for the product before purchasing, does a great job at heating small- to medium-sized spaces, and has great safety features that make using a space heater much less worrisome. However, the heater is quite loud and does glow red, which can be annoying if you are planning on using this in a bedroom. The front of the heater also does get quite hot so children and animals should be kept away. I am using this heater to heat the back area of my house, which our central heat does not reach. It is great, and I love the easy-to-use thermostat which turns off the heater once it reaches the specified temperature. I only wish that it had more flexible thermostat settings that the user could adjust. But overall, a great product and definitely worth the price.
The furnace went out in my parents' home over Thanksgiving break. They live in Alaska, so this is not a small problem. It was going to be several days before the furnace could function again, so my dad sent me out on a mission to find some space heaters. My dad's only request was that the heaters be able to heat fairly large spaces. I went to several stores including, Walmart, Lowes, Target, Fred Meyer, and then finally Sears. Sears seemed to have the best heaters for what we were needing. I settled on this heater because it looked simple to use (one button, how much simpler can it get?). I bought two.
Fast forward a month to Christmas break and I'm surprised to see the heaters still in action long after the furnace has been fixed. My parents continue to use them in certain areas of the house, and I attribute this to three things:
1- Dead simple one button control that is very easy to use and see. One button toggles you through all of the options, including temperature control. Also, the current setting is lit by an LED and is very easy to read. This doesn't seem like that big of deal but it is. If you are constantly having to fiddle with a heater, you won't use it.
2- Lots of heat on a small footprint. This heater doesn't take up much space in a room, and you still get lots of heat.
3- Trustworthy temperature control keeps the room just right without being on too much.
We had tried several different heaters to heat our family room with less than satisfactory results. We went through several oil filled heaters. They provided some heat, but very localized...not spreading throughout the room. They also seemed to fall apart after a couple of years.
A neighbor had one of those expensive EdenPure heaters that is quartz based and she is very happy with it. We couldn't spend that kind of money and it also takes up too much room. I searched and searched finally finding this one reviewed in Consumer Reports. I always like to get another opinion as sometimes I find Consumer Reports wrong.
We too the plunge and couldn't be happier. It makes a little vibrating noise when it comes on [sounds sort of like a fan on low]. That stops in a minute or two. What's the best is that it seems to push the heat out into the whole room.
In conclusion, it's not the prettiest unit, but more than does the job for us. We may actually buy another for the garage to replace an older unit.
